PHANTOM X - This Is War CD

PHANTOM X isn't the generic power metal many may be used to. From the thrash influenced rocker "This is War" to "Blood of Eden," there is a raw, harsh edge to Phantom X's music not often seen in power metal. Following a King Diamond-esque formula, the vocals switch between the soaring clean singing that some may dub as annoying to a more harsh snarl that sounds like something Dave Mustaine of Megadeth would do. Instead of coming off as 'flowery' the power metal here sounds a lot more metal and less keyboard influenced, as well as thankfully not being too repetitive. Sprawled throughout the album are many different kinds of riffs and melodies that aren't as complex as something a prog-metal band would do, but at least the album isn't all "hard" or all "soft."

With PHANTOM-X it’s hard to pinpoint one or even few bands as influences, they’re a mix of a lot really. There’s a little of ACCEPT, RUNNING WILD, SAVATAGE, DIO, IRON MAIDEN over it all.
