Hailing from Germany, Warhammer are an extremely fanatic tribute-band to Hellhammer. They split-up in December, 2001 after recording Curse of the Absolute Eclipse, but reformed in early 2006. This is their 11 song debut album from 1997, a definite must-buy for all who love their heavy metal with the emphasis on the "heavy". Literally HEAVY metal, sheer force of gravity at its fullest. With delightfully captivating intensity Warhammer maul their corpselittered way through skull-splitting mountains of riff monstrosity, sometimes at crushing speed, sometimes at the obliterating pace of a titan of doom, but ever grinding down the simplest and most efficient chord progression with the massive guitar and bass sound borrowed from their idols, wielding this brute force like a blunt instrument of hellish death. It's truly awe inspiring how over two-and-a-half decades after Hellhammer helped pioneer the earliest foundations of death metal the sound they created and which Warhammer recreate can still easily outclass most of the genre in terms of sheer brutality. Devourment can slam their hearts out, Warhammer will just kick their weak a*ses in a heartbeat.
